April Updates

Whee~~~ Another update!

Some upcoming competitions/activities organised by other CCAs this term are are:
  • Games Fest, by SGC
  • Global Challenger, by GAS
  • 'Don't Forget the Lyrics', by Jap Club

(In addition, I've heard rumours about a Firefly quiz coming up soon. )

If the house noms haven't bugged any of you to participate in the events, here I am bugging you.
Go participate in the events, do URSA proud, and pull us back up the league!
(FYI, currently we're not the first anymore, due to the VOG points. Nevertheless, we're not the last! =))

Next, the ONE AND ONLY HOUSE COMM-ORGANISED EVENT OF THE TERM...

FACES OF THE YEAR 2009

Aspiring to be that poster boy we use for Open House banners?
Want to be crowned the hottest girl in VJ?
NOW HERE'S YOUR CHANCE.
Coerce your classmates to vote for you as one of the FOTY candidates now!

FYI, the process:

  • Each class sends in one Guy and one Gal representative.
  • Their photos will be made available thru VCSD, and voting for the preliminary rounds start.
  • The Top 20 or so Guys/Gals from each category gets into semi-finals.
  • Their faces will be displayed on VCSD again for voting.
  • The Top 8 from each category gets into the FINALS.
  • At this stage, contestants will go thru a professional photo-shooting and the photos will be displayed all around the school to get people to vote for them.
  • Finally, the photos are posted on the VCSD and Victorians vote.
  • Eventually, the guy and the gal with the most votes win the title.

So what are you waiting for (P.S. Christmas is 8 more months away)?!
While waiting for Christmas to come, why not start by voting for the cutie you have been eyeing in your class for as long as you were in VJ?!

Lastly, something that everyone has been waiting for...

HOUSE SPEECHES 2009!
(or rather, HOUSE PAGEANT)

The speeches will be scheduled to be on this coming Thursday, 30April.
And... Just in case you haven't seen them around with the big yellow beauty pageant looking thing, the candidates for this year are....
Aqila
Bryan
Chelsea
Joyce
Nurul
Salimah

P.S. They are really a wonderful bunch of ppl! Try them to believe it! Although not as wonderful as the current House Comm, we believe that they have the potential!

Look out for them, and in the meantime, try to think up of intelligent questions to ask them during the speeches!

FYI

Hey guys, just FYI.
The past achievements section in the sidebar has been slightly modified.
This is due to the fact that one of the questions in the House Comm Application form requires the knowledge of the events we have won.
The actual achievements list (one whole list of stuffs) will be back right after all the application forms are submitted.

Meanwhile, if you are interested to be part of VJC '09 House Comm, please visit the booth set up near the canteen to find out more about us or to buy an application form.
Each form costs only $1.99. Remember to answer every question carefully! =)

URSA = FIRST

Yo, champions!

That's right, you've seen the tag, URSA is currently the FIRST IN RANKING, thanks to UR avid participation!
The news have even spread to Malaysia (see tagboard)! =D

INTERHOUSE BRIGDE
Date: 7 Oct 08
Time: 1615h
Venue: Concourse

In addition to having the most number of participants in INTERHOUSE BRIDGE COMPETITION, 3 out of 4 finalists are from URSA!

Despite facing a tough fight from the shameless lynx cats, the URSA finalists eventually managed to come in FIRST, FIRST (it's a tie) and THIRD runners-up.

They are:
- 1st Runner Up: Thomas (08S42)
- 1st Runner Up: Patrick (08S64)
- 3rd Runner Up: Tingyong (08S37)

A round of applause for them!

Anyways, with these results, URSA emerged as the overall BRIDGE champions, and hence is placed at the FIRST position in the overall house ranking (as of 07 Oct)!

GLOBAL AFFAIRS QUIZ
Date: 8 Oct 08
Time: 1500h
Venue: Performance Theatre

Whee~~~
Although there's a lower rate of participation for this activity (we assume that it's due to the intensity of the previous day's competition), we've got pretty good results! =)

One of our teams came in SECOND runner-up, having an average score of less than 0.5 lower than the FIRST runner-up. Hence, they weren't able to go into the FINALS and compete for the $120 book voucher. =(

The team members are:
- Kang-An (08S56)
- Syamil (08S56)
- Chrystal (08S56)

A round of applause for them!

Even though we didn't win the quiz today, URSA, on the overall, should be still on top of all the other houses! Wow, amazing!

Another round of applause!
Well done, URSA!

At this point of time, the URSA House Comm would like to sincerely thank each and every one of the participants for participating in the abovementioned two house activities.

Remember,

RSA is incomplete without U!

Continue to take part in more house activities!

For those who haven't done so, here's your chance:

INTERHOUSE TWISTER

next Thursday.
Watch out for the next post for more updates on it!

HCD

Hey kids!

Happy CHILDREN'S DAY!

It's been a long while since we're entitled to a 'children's day' public holiday, ya?
So, do cherish today and do something that you've always wanted to do, but can't do cos you're already a 'grown up'. That includes:
  • Watching Kid's Central.
Although there's no more powerpuff girls or bananas-in-pyjamas, you can still expect to see all-time favourites, like Pokemon and Power Rangers! <3>
  • Receiving gifts for Children's Day
Go on, ask your parents/teachers for presents.
    Afterall, today's YOUR day!
  • Play the games you used to play in primary school - hopscotch, tic-tac-toe, ice and water, zero-point; or even those that you've enjoyed playing when the teachers are not around, e.g. BRIDGE.

Whoops! Did I mentioned BRIDGE?
That brings me to the next point, INTERHOUSE BRIDGE, next tuesday!

Even if you're inexperienced, it's okay!
Bridge is a game that requires both skill and luck.
Even without the skill, you'll still have the luck (ever heard of beginner's luck?)!

So, quick quick, got sign up at the URSA house board on friday when you come back for Farewell Assembly!
P.S. Farewell Assembly's going to be fun! =)

HCA (Happy Children's Day),
Ci Yi.

RIP

Hey guys (and gals),

How time flies!
Remember the post 6 days ago?
With merely a few million blinks of the eye, IT's over!
Well, at least for some of us.. =)

For the potential physicists and physicians, don't be jealous, it's going to be over soon!
But if you're reading this, chances are, your promos are already over.

Anyways, if you think that you're going to take R-paper for sure, remember the following fuss-free formula to pass your R-paper:

With the promos/prelims/end-of-year exams coming to an end, what can you do to spice up your life?
Well, one thing I can think of is by playing BRIDGE.

That's right.
Tthe 5th House Committee is coming up with an
INTERHOUSE BRIDGE COMPETION.
According to definitions, bridge, or more accurately known as Contract Bridge, is a card game in which four players, forming two partnerships, first bid then play by taking tricks.
Sounds exciting, ya?

"WE NEED TO KICK SOME BUTTS"
- Clarice Zhang

That's absolutely right.
We've been kicked too many times in our butts by other houses, so it's time to really fight back and show everyone who's the pro in 'butt-kicking'.

Tempted? Don't wait.
Sign up at the newly-revamped Ursa board NOW (or the next working day if your'e not in college).
More details can also be found there.

If there's not enough fields for you to sign up (which is what's going to happen, I hope), you should still die die try to squeeze your name into the sign-up sheet, to make other houses know that Ursa has many *AMAZING* individuals who are enthusiastic and full of zest when it comes to 'butt-kicking'.

If you still don't see any incentive in joining the competition, recall what Mr Chow did to us when we managed to get into the 'top six' for Cross Country.
Hence, we certainly don't want to get into merely the 'top six' for this year's overall house ranking right?

Angry Mr Chow

If you need some form of practice, you can visit http://viwawa.com/, and go to 'Zany Bridge'.
I have no idea who's Zany, but the game is quite effective in improving Brigding skills, as you compete with real online players.
You can even practice together with your friend in this online Bridge game!
Also try 'Wahjong', a Mahjong game to prepare yourselves for the interhouse MAHJONG next year (tentative).

With that, I end off today's post.

RIP (relaxing in peace),
Ci Yi.

Good luck for promos!

HEY PEOPLE BEARS!
Just to wish ALL J1s good luck for promos.
We all know we can be promoted, ya?

Cos... we won't get a
U grade and take
R paper cos we're simply too
Superb, so we can all get straight
As for promos.
With this fact in mind, I conclude that promoting gracefully is not a myth.

As for the J2s, we all know that since you guys already got promoted a year ago, you should be capable of taking A levels right? So I shall save all those good lucks for myself.

As for the IPs, don't worry about your exams.
No matter what, you're going to be promoted to J1 next/next-next year under that choo-choo train system right? Ahh.. the joys of being able to skip O levels.

Ok, bears, see ya all in more interhouse games after the exams! =D
P.S. Don't look at the house score board. =X

Oh, by the way, we're going to revamp this house blog soon so watch out for more updates!

LOL (lots of love),
Ci Yi.

urh urh urh URSA!

hey bears it was a shizass awesome sports day today! we R the champions. (somewhat anyway. even if we didn't get top for sports day BUT WE ARE STILL THE CHAMPIONS) and we pwned everyone at cheering anyway! how many times did we go nuts SPAMMING everybody with URH URH URH URSA??? (don't know about you but that is on the way to becoming great ursa cheer tradition.)

we'd like to congratulate all the runners and participants who did the ursa name proud by running their hearts out! we were there screaming you on! great job people!!!! especially the ursa boys w/ their overall 5th placing, and ursa girls with SECOND!!!! WEEEE!!!!

another group of people we'd like to thank are OUR CHEERLEADERS, who were completely WOWZAS. (did you see the mask thing??? how artistic is that? and the body waving and the everything OMGZWOWZ.) thank you to all the school cheerleaders who put in their effort giving them some input, and thank you cheerleaders for all that hard work late nights and effort!!! you guys are the bomb!!!

also much love goes out to our ursa noms, who put in tons of effort getting the hype up for today with the SUPERCOOL MOTHERLONG BANNER, the many other really cool banners (thanks all classes who painted them! we sure showed the rest which house can paint) and the posters, as well as for helping to dye the gloves alongside your comm (yes, each glove was lovingly and painstakingly hand dyed.)

great job everyone! is ursa THE house or what???

xoxo from your everlovin' comm.

ps yes we WILL be putting photos up! soon! if you have any photos you'd like us to include wanna send them to the gmail and drop us a note on the tagboard and we'll put it up ASAP :)

Thursday, 3 April 2008

With the lack of updates, you think Ursa's dead? Nay!

Behind the scenes, cheerleaders are sweating and bleeding it out to put up a spectacular performance on sports day. People are busying themselves with the banners and cheers. And with all this action going on... are you part of it? If not, then take part in some sports day events! Make Ursa proud! Let yourself be part of Ursa's historic year!

Monday, 17 March 2008

Three (repeated) announcements for all you Ursa bears. Sports Day is in mid-April, which is coming soon! So let's prepare and get our cheers, banners, and interhouse cheerleaders ready and emerge triumphant for this year's Sports Day!

Firstly, do remember to submit your wonderful cheers to Ci Yi at wong.ciyi@vjc.sg. Ursa needs your jaw-dropping cheers!

Secondly, do submit your banner proposals to Wei Sheng at weisheng1991@hotmail.com. They shall be reviewed and if approved, you'll see your jaw-dropping designs around the school, perking the spirits of us Ursa bears up!

Thirdly, we need members to participate in this year's interhouse cheerleading competition. The sign-up list has already been put up on the Ursa house board, so please do go sign up! It's gonna be an exciting event, and a chance for us to score a jaw-dropping victory for Ursa, so please, don't hide your enthusiasms but instead, unleash them! We now have people from 08A15, 08S42, and 08S64 signing up already (though we still want more people from those classes). Ursa bears from 08S31, 08S37, 08S56, and V14, please kindly sign up with your CT reps and inform Junyang at juzjunzz@gmail.com. Thank you.

You do realise that the adjective "jaw-dropping," has been used very often. That is because it is the adjective that Mr. Chow, our house master, repeatedly emphasised on, and that should be what we as Ursa bears should produce in others. So let's all work hard and fight for Ursa!

Saturday, 15 March 2008

The new blogskin will come up only after sports day. That is so as I will need to get the pictures of Ursa members in ACTION, and integrate them into the design and all. To digress just abit, sports day should be on early April, the exact date unknown. So all members do be ready!

Monday, 25 February 2008

Hello everyone. Firstly, I understand that not many of us find aesthetic pleasure in the design of the current blogskin, so I'll try my best to come up with a new one as soon as possible.

Ok, with that aside...

This is an announcement to all you Ursa members. As we all know, the VJC Sports Day is coming up soon in a couple of months, and there're many exciting things associated with that special day that we can participate in - banner designs, cheerleading, and of course, taking part in the events. After a not-so-proud setback (I wouldn't say defeat) in the cross-country this year, we at the house comms (the nominees, the house comm J2 members, and the teacher-in-charge Mr. Chow) are determined for Ursa to emerge CHAMPION in this year's Sports Day. Most certainly, we're not the only ones eager and there must be millions of you out there itching to play a part for Ursa's glory.

So here's your chance.

Banner designs. We need your help to come up with good and jaw-dropping (to quote Mr. Chow) designs that people will talk about for years to come. Ok, that shall be our doable aim. Contact details, I'll post it up soon, but in the meanwhile, you can make use of the tagboard.

Cheerleading. We need 20 people to participate in this year's cheerleading competition, representing our house on Sports Day. It's gonna be a great time for us all, and apart from training and sweating together, we bond! Yeah! And we're honoured to have our dear Quarter-master and senior cheerleader to act as our coach, so we're gonna beat the other teams flat!

Sports Day events. Just take part in as many events as you can just so we can win points. To quote Mr. Chow roughly again, even if you can't run, just take part in the race! We don't require (although we will appreciate it) victory in EVERY event, but we WANT the overall victory. We must top Sports Day, so let's all get hyped up, enthusiastic, and fight for our house, URSA! (Ok, a tad cheesy, but brings up the effect.)

So that's all for now, hope to see your positive tags. (Can't think of a better way to end this thing.)

Friday, 22 February 2008

updates from The Land of CTs In Less Than Two Weeks

URSA BEARS!!!
even though we were not the no. 1 for x-country, we'd like to thank all who participated in all that running and "reasons for running" and the ambition dress up! i know some of the reasons for running were insanely funny... "i'm running because all the girls are cheering me on!"... "i'm running because i'm scared of the PE dept!"... "i'm running because he's running!"... "i'm running cos i couldn't get an MC!" etc. and we'd like to applaud all those who dressed up, i know xianglin in a swimming instructor kit, guowei as a supermodel and sanchit as his official photographer, xtine as a duck rice canteen vendor, wenwen as a SIA girl, and junyang for co-winning the ambition dress up thing as a construction worker with a disfigured face.
(sorry if i missed anyone out, that's the downside of being tiny your view is occasionally obscured.)
and congratulations to our athletic, awesome bears who came in top 100! [especially our ursa bear who came in at the very hundredth position for girls' ;) ]
we shall post pictures up once we find them so you can relive the fun!
also, we'd like to congratulate and support our ursa house comm noms! they are, in entirely random order...
nella
clarice
weisheng
junyang
alyssa
jason
ciyi
and congrats to all year ones who're staying in VJ, and a huge big welcome to all the second intakers in ursa!
happy weekend and all the best to all J2s for CTs!
